Nick, who was born in Worcestershire, is said to have found the inspiration for his first novel when he met a blacksmith who told him about horse whisperers – people who claim they can heal traumatised horses by speaking to them. Nick Evans joined the Chronicle and Journal in the 1970s before going on to write his bestselling book, The Horse Whisperer, in 1995.
